THINK YOU HAD A BAD DAY? Rebecca’s Hate Mail, to make you feel better.

Rebecca is as controversial as they come, and with that controversy sometimes comes, well, being hated. She’s very good at laughing things off, and wants to share some of her hate mail to #1) make you laugh, and #2) rebuttal in her own defense.

Here’s a really nasty one.

Ms. Eckler,

. . . there is a reason why men won’t this or that . . . why it seems they
require training.

Men do exactly what you and your friends wish they would, for women who they
respect. To be respected, you have to do substantive things, and mean them. Men
behave badly, around women who have nothing to offer or are offering nothing.
That sounds offensive to say, but from a man’s point of view, it is not. Modern
women absolutely refuse to do what used to constitute being a well-rounded
woman, and think they can secure a partner with far less.

With all due respect, having read your columns, as a woman I have to say that
you/your friends will never secure a devoted, rewarding partner. Women who are
being treated shabbily, deserve it because they are behaving shabbily – giving
next to nothing and expecting a man’s best in return.

Rebecca’s Response:

Let’s be clear. I don’t think men need training. I think they need raising. I do think you have a point, which I do mention in How to Raise a Boyfriend, which is that sometimes us women are clueless. We don’t appreciate enough. But don’t bash on my friends! I believe that my friends (and all other women) have and will secure a devoted, rewarding partner. And I don’t think “modern women absolutely refuse to do what used to constitute being a well-rounded woman.” Unless of course you’re saying that all us women should be barefoot in the kitchen slaving over a hot stove to make our men dinner. Men, in this vein, who probably want us just to smile while they grunt at us. But I’m sure that’s not what you’re saying. Happy reading!
